We’ve already seen a few Brickheadz Pets come through with 40480 Ginger Tabby, 40481 Cockatiel and 40482 Hamster, now it’s time to add to the collection with 40545 Koi Fish and 40546 Poodles! There are still two pets to build in each set – an adult and a baby, but the display bases have changed slightly, opting for a tiled edge and detail on the side.
40545 Koi Fish
This is a clever, yet simple little build. I love the use of the 2×2 turntable and minifigure bowl for the open mouths. I like the mixture of fingernail tiles and printed tiles for the texturing, although I would have preferred going for one or the other. The difference in sizes in markings is a little too noticeable.

The trans clear elements in the tails and fins is a nice touch, and the shaping is good for a Brickheadz build, although given they’re a far smaller model, it’s over much quicker. They’re propped up by some 1×2 trans light blue bricks, with some yellow crowns used as lilies to finish it off. The addition of the classic koi whiskers was a nice touch.
40546 Poodles
The fluffiness of the dogs here is excellent, using studs to great effect. These look so cute! It’s the classic baby trick look – small body, big head. The little collar with the gold heart tag on the adult is cute too. The best detail about the poodles (apart from the cute little poodley tails) is the snout on the adult dog.

Making great use of some SNOT, the shaping of the shout around the mouth is really well done. It’s simple and incredibly effective. This one, seemingly minor detail gives it a bit more of a look distinct from other Brickheadz builds, and it’s a nice touch.
There’s not often a lot to say about Brickheadz builds – build-wise they’re pretty same same, but it comes down to the smallest things in design, which is why I’ll keep having an interest in them. The Pets range has been a nice change from the normal Brickheadz formula and I’m excited to see what other pets will be added.
