The LEGO Group have just announced a rebrand of the sometimes misleading LEGO 18+ range (that used to be the beloved and iconic Creator Expert theme. All this was back in 2020 when the black box design came in. While that’s grown on me, the 18+ moniker hasn’t. As of June 2022, the second half of the year, the adult focused sets (of which there’s a lot) will be branded under the LEGO Icons theme. It also comes with a very snazzy logo!
Here’s the official statement from LEGO:
From June 1st, 2022, we will be uniting many of our adult focused LEGO® sets under the name LEGO® Icons to help our adult consumers easily to find new, immersive builds or models that link to their interests and passions, particularly when shopping or browsing online. The name LEGO Icons will span all of our sets designed for older builders that are not already part of an existing LEGO theme such as LEGO® Technic, LEGO® Ideas or LEGO® Architecture.
I really like this design and concept – it’s perfect for the set types, and will be much easier to figure out. LEGO 18+ was very misconstrued and confusing. While I’m sad to see Creator Expert finally go, LEGO Icons is great and it’s here to stay.
