Official Announcement of LEGO Monkie Kid

LEGO has officially announced the arrival of the new Monkie Kid theme! Looking at the quality of the sets on offer, I think this one will be popular.

For those of you (like I was) who aren’t sure what it’s all about, let me give you a brief intro. The Monkey King is an old Chinese legend from a book called Journey to the West that originally dates back to the 16th century. The Monkey King was apparently born out of a stone who gets supernatural powers from Taoist practices. He’s super strong, super fast, and can transform himself into other forms. He’s also a skilled fighter, can transform his hair into multiple weapons, animals and objects, can freeze people in place, and can even control some of the weather.

It’s not something I grew up with, but plenty of people I’ve talked to have said it was awesome and worth checking out.

LEGO has produced eight stunning looking sets, an animated mini-movie and an animated TV series. The story for the LEGO sets is that an ordinary boy, Monkie Kid, finds Monkey King’s legendary staff and he becomes the chosen one, destined to stop the Demon Bull King and his army of Bull Clones from taking over the city.

The TV series looks really good, as does the mini movie – you can check out some trailers below. After that is the information about the LEGO sets!

The sets will be available for mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong from May 15th (now!), and worldwide tomorrow, on May 16th.

Whoa. This looks brilliant! What a build! Definitely on the list to pick up. It looks like it’s relatively poseable too – at the shoulders, elbows, hips and feet.

Another transforming vehicle – as well as a lot of other very nice inclusions. This vehicle is something out of Mad Max! I love it. The Panda store is nice too.

This looks amazing – Surely this is set of the year this year – if not in contention! A huge mech, a nice looking store, The Monkey King himself, and a few more extras? This looks beautiful.

This set also opens up to reveal the insides – even without that play feature, it looks excellent. Those sea containers are brilliant!

All of the sets look very sticker heavy, but incredibly unique and well worth picking up.
