Official Announcement of LEGO Star Wars BOOST Droid Commander

Happy Star Wars Day! In exciting news, LEGO has officially announced a very interesting set, coming from both LEGO Star Wars and LEGO BOOST – 75253 Droid Commander.

75253 Droid Commander

This Star Wars themed BOOST set consists of three well known Star Wars droids – R2-D2, a Gonk Droid, and a Mouse Droid, and will be available from September 1 for US $199.99 / DE €199.99 / UK £179.99 / AUS 359.99. According to the press release below, there’s a fair bit these droids can be programmed to do!

I’m a big fan of LEGO BOOST – I use them at work regularly, and they’re a great way to get kids into coding. Combining block based coding with LEGO is excellent, but combining it with Star Wars is genius.

While the set isn’t cheap, there are lots of replay options for this. It only comes with one BOOST hub (the core and brains of the set), so you’ll need to dismantle the droids to build the next one, but you’ll be able to build all three and swap the hub in and out of them all! (Thanks to Ralph for the update). It sounds brilliant, and something I’ll definitely look at to add to my collection.

You can read the full press release below, as well as see some of the prototype builds for each of the three droids.
