Entries were limited to PLUG members, and they could choose between a full three floor apartment, or a single floor. We displayed the entries during Bricktober Perth 2019, and they were a huge hit.
During show we had a height restriction, plus people wouldn’t have been able to see the top floors, so we split them, but we stacked them together at the end of the show.
We even had Dave and G come through and take a look! They were very impressed at the quality of the builds.
The judges were the PLUG Ambassador, Richie, Kevin Ahn, LEGO’s Community Engagement and Market Integration Manager for the Asia Pacific Region, and part of the AFOL Engagement Team (who was also able to attend the show!), and me.
On the advice of our awesome local LEGO Masters contestants, Dave & G, we also raised the brick height by one, so more light could come in to the builds. All in all we had 11 entries stacking up to 17 floors! Needless to say, Richie, Kevin and I had a very hard time choosing the winners. We chose a winner, a runner up, and two honourable mentions.
I’ll be posting more photos from the apartments in the coming weeks, but overall, we had themes covering spies, minidolls, Star Wars, the Wizard of Oz, a French winery, Anton’s Bait Shop turned into a cafe, a food court, a party apartment, a comfy apartment, and to cap it all off, Fabuland!
A huge congratulations to our winners:
- Marcus & Natasha’s Fabuland apartment
- Katja & Ryan’s winery
- Brad’s Bait Cafe, and
- Liam and Lisa’s food court.
I’ll make sure I do an article on each of these, as the photos here just don’t do them justice. Also, a massive congratulations to all of our entrants – they were amazing entries, and drew a lot of attention at the show!
Thanks also to Richie and PLUG for getting involved! We’ll be sure to run it again next year, so make sure you come to the show to check it out. If you live in Perth and aren’t a part of PerthLUG, get involved!
