So what is LEGO Dimensions?

The teasers have come and gone, and now we have some official details of the new LEGO hybrid videogame and toy: LEGO Dimensions.
Taking inspiration from games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, LEGO Dimensions requires the player to build certain objects, placing them on the “portal”, which will make them appear in the game.

The starter pack (around $169.95, according to EB Games) includes the portal, 3 minifigs (Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf), and a small Batmobile, the portal and batmobile being brick-built.

There will also be expansion sets as well. They come in three types. Note that prices are according to EB Games.

  • Team Packs (2 minifigs) (39.95)
  • Level Packs (new game level) ($49.95)
  • Fun Packs (single minifig and vehicle) ($24.95)

Those prices look pretty steep. Hopefully they see a drop before the release!

For you PC fans, unfortunately you’re out of luck. LEGO Dimensions will be coming to Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 on September 28, 2015.
